Welcome to Chez's Wildflower Collections Did you know there are an estimated 400,000 species of plants worldwide? Perhaps even more that we have yet to discover and name to science. Biological hotspots are places where diversity is at its greatest. The state of California is considering to be one of these areas, as is the Amazon Rainforest... etc. In most of these hotspots, new species of plants are being discovered every year, even in a place as well documented as California! We have made it our goal to travel to parts of the world where floral diversity is high, and document these plants with photographs and geographic data. In all cases to date, all flora work outside the USA has been donated to local universities or museums, to aid botanists with their collections and databases. As we continue to travel the world outside the USA in search of floras, we see more and more each day how the human race is impacting the world we all share. Plants are a great way to measure environmental health, and plant communities are good indicators of ecosystem stability. In many cases, indigenous land management and agricultural practices went hand-in-hand with the natural world, but as political regime change and pressures of drought, overpopulation, and tourism imact these areas, these indigenous practices are falling by the wayside, and are instead being replaced by conventional, and typically more damaging, land managment practices. Our goal is not just to document the flora we see because it is fun, but it is also to document these changes to the land, and perhaps learn how we can bring our world and its ecosystems back into harmony with its people.
