Flora in Kenya and Tanzania
Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Kenya, and the grasslands

The plants are this page are mostly from the two mountains, which were the focus of the botanical trip to Kenya and Tanzania.  As a botanist, however, I could not resist also snapping the few wildflowers that were up in the grasslands as well.  Those species are indicated by "(grassland)" after their latin name. 

The plants represented here were photographed in the fall (Oct and Nov) of 2010.  The short rainy season was a good one, hence so many flowers in bloom that time of year.  Also, Mt. Kenya had burned severley in 2005, so a few of the species found are fire followers.

There were a lot of unknowns while trekking.  We are working with the East African Herbarium to correctly identify these spcies, but if any visitors to this page believe they know please email us any relative information.  Enoy!
